Anatomy of the Gray Men’s Suit

Anatomy of the Gray Men’s Suit

The gray men’s suit can be just as appealing and as effective as the classic black men’s power suit that we’ve all become so familiar with. In fact, for many men’s fashion situations the gray suit can be even more memorable and powerful than its counterparts. Let’s take a look at the anatomy of the gray men’s suit.

The Unstoppable Gray Men’s Suit

Just check out the celebrity fashion icons who are known for wearing gray suits. Men like George Clooney, Ryan Reynolds, Seal, Ryan Gosling, and Brad Pitt have often been seen looking stunning and in command, wearing their gray suits. Where and when? Glad you asked.

The gray suit is perfect for the business meeting with the new client, the evening drink after work, the weekend date, and the semi-formal dinner party. There’s something about the well-cut gray suit worn in the spring that just brings us out of our winter comas as well. We’re so used to the dark, earth tones of the season, and a light gray suit really can be a mood changer, both for the wearer and for those within your scope of influence. The gray suit is also known for corporate wear, as is navy, so remember this if you do attend a large corporate gathering. That’s the only time you may want to stick with black, –after all, you don’t want to blend in with the rest of the boys.

Skin Tones that Work Best with Gray Men’s Suits

Often, a certain colour of suit will wash out our skin tones, cause us to look older, or just not quite look right. Gray is the exception to this rule. You really can’t go wrong with gray, since it compliments every skin tone extremely well. Someone like Alec Baldwin, who has fair skin, looks great in a medium to darker gray, while a darker skin tone, such as Seal or Johnny Depp who have medium to dark skin, look great in a lighter suit. Medium skin tones can really go either way.

Formal Shirts for Your Gray Suit

The gray men’s suit looks just as good with a black or a white formal shirt. A few coloured formal shirts can also work, but nothing brings out the gray as well as a black or white shirt. In order to decide on the right formal shirt, think about where you’ll be wearing your suit. If the event is business related at all, it’s not time to experiment. Stick with a crisp, white shirt. The black shirt is ideal for an evening event. Use a hot coloured silk tie to make your suit really pop.

We receive the question again and again about the colour of shoes that is appropriate for a gray suit. A gray suit is highly versatile, and so should your shoes be. Although black shoes and black belt are the trusted match, they are definitely not your only option. Many men simply choose black because they don’t know what else to wear, so they use black as a fall back option. Black shoes do look great with a gray suit, but check out brown for a men’s fashion option. A rich pair of caramel coloured brown shoes brings out the richness of the gray and really makes it stand out.

Now you’ve got the scoop on the gray men’s suit. Use this information and make your next event an occasion to shine!
